Valentine’s Day ‘Self-Love’ 5 Ways!

Valentine's Day Self Love

Valentine’s Day traditions of romancing and honouring a lover with sensual foods (like chocolates!) hearts and flowers goes way back to the 18th-century.  Leaving aside the tacky media hype, I think it’s still a lovely way to recognise and be recognised by, a loved one.  For those without an ‘other half’, Valentine’s Day can leave us feeling pretty lonely and unloved – but it absolutely doesn’t have to!

Self-love and inner connectedness

femmergyValentine’s Day or not; whether we’re in a relationship or not – true love doesn’t start with ‘A.N. Other’. It starts inside of us, with self-love.  If you’ve been following for a while, you’ll know that for me, an important element of building true health is building our inner and outer connectedness.

More of us are recognising that our lifestyle can be either good or bad medicine and research shows that nurturing close, connected relationships and social connections for our health.

But equally, it’s becoming clearer that, if we want to live healthily and happily, we need to treat ourselves with the same kindness love and compassion that we show others.  Why?

Dr Kelly Brogan sees it like this:

“We fell in love with our minds, with the promise of expansion, growth, and accelerated evolution that led us down a path away from our essential selves.”

But what is ‘self-love’?

“Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth.  Self-love is dynamic; it grows by actions that mature us. When we act in ways that expand self-love in us, we begin to accept much better our weaknesses as well as our strengths, have less need to explain away our short-comings, have compassion for ourselves as human beings struggling to find personal meaning, are more centred in our life purpose and values, and expect living fulfilment through our own efforts” Deborah Khoshaba

It’s especially important for women to recognise this – women are very good at giving love to our partners, family, friends (and how good does it feel to receive love from someone special?).

But the thing is, giving and receiving that kind of love is depends on other people; it’s all ‘out-there’ – outside of us, and very often depends on others’ approval.  We need to develop a regular habit of self-care – and this doesn’t mean going to the spa and getting a massage (although – who wouldn’t want to?!)

More and more we’re learning about how important it is for our health and our happiness to recognise, nurture and express the love that’s inside of us – our own, private self-love and to learn to love ourselves exactly as we are – beautiful!

But let’s get real – even if we recognise the need to work on loving ourselves more, when it comes to taking action to practise self-love, it can feel like adding yet another task to an already overwhelming list of things to be done!

It certainly felt like this for me… even though I knew I should, although I really wanted to, just remembering to do the few simple (but powerful) things I’d committed to doing was really challenging…

#1 STOP doing anything, just find a place to be

#2 SURRENDER – breathe out, let go to your inner energy

#3 SENSE – what your body and your mind is telling you

#4 APPRECIATE … the inner wisdom of your ‘self‘ and ACT accordingly

Sounds so simple, doesn’t it – but it’s hellish difficult to stay conscious of these four simple steps when ‘busyness’ gets in the way.  It certainly was difficult for me! So, with Valentine’s Day coming round again, I wanted to share something really special with you…

Enter a helping hand

A special piece of jewellery has helped me to focus on self-love; to be more specific, the piece (that I’m wearing) in the photo above.

It’s a spinning pendant named ‘Balance Chi’ by Global Soul Jewellery.  This beautiful piece, a Christmas gift, is living up to its promise to teach me “how to consciously connect with your inner heart to create a balanced life where you become the master of your destiny”.

By just wearing it (it sits at heart level) every day, it serves to remind me to take ACTION: to sit, to be present to myself, to be conscious, to be mindful, to focus, to appreciate myself spiritually and in tangible ways.  I think that’s really special!

What’s special about GlobalSoul’s jewellery?

“This is our world… practising mindfulness, being kind, loving and compassionate to all things so that we experience an abundant and joyful life…. we can all live in peace, but first we must find peace within”. (Jacqui Land Keavney, GlobalSoul)

Here’s Jacqui’s take on inner and outer connectedness:

“We live in a chaotic world, with over 7 billion people on this planet.  Most are living from the ‘outside-in’, unconsciously dis-connected to their inner heart and living a life that relies on external and material things to bring happiness.  In truth, life should be lived from the ‘inside-out’ and the anger, the hatred, the violence and the selfish behaviour that’s devastating our world is testimony to the disconnection in the world right now. This surely is enough to wake up every unconscious soul!

When we live our lives from the outside-in we’re living unconsciously, from the mind, unaware of the imbalance and dis-ease that we are creating within us. Living unconsciously is not being aware of our thoughts, words and actions, which in fact create our reality. Being out of balance creates many issues in the physical and the biggest is disease within our bodies – when our mind, body and soul are out of alignment.

We at GlobalSoul live with the knowing that we are energy beings having a physical experience called ‘life’.  We strive consciously to live towards creating inner peace through mindfulness, kindness and compassion for all beings.

Through our Chi range of jewellery, GlobalSoul promotes, ways to experience life consciously, from the inside-out helping you to connect with your inner heart through meditation and align your mind, body and soul. Each of the 5 collections has its own symbolic meaning, message and purpose to assist you in living a balanced life.

Life is meant to be simple yet we make it so difficult when we live from the mind alone!”

GlobalSoul JewelleryJacqui is of the most genuine and ‘connected’ people I’ve ever met; we been friends for several years and I can only endorse her philosophy and applaud her passion for bringing healing and peace to a hurting world through individual spiritual awareness and growth.

For me, owning a piece of Chi jewellery has become aid to self-love, with an huge bonus – an investment in a connected community of individuals, whose collective global energy is focused on peace and harmony.

Great message Izabella, you’re so right! There’s no point in anything external if you’re internal game isn’t strong. Love yourself more and appreciate what you have!

Thanks Darryl! How much better place the world would be if we all nurtured our self-love and started living from the inside out.
